Life List

If you found out your days were limited, would you start living your life the way you’ve always wanted? Would you climb mountains or bungee jump or join the circus? Would you tell someone you love them, take that trip you’ve been meaning to take or sell your house? Would you stop using Oxford Commas or give up your cell phone or decide to have children?

Well, I’ve got news for you: your days are limited. We are all dying. But right now? We’re alive.

I’m always making lists and forgetting about them, unable to decide if I want do to a Day Zero project or a blank before I’m blank list. I’ve decided, though, that I don’t need to set a deadline on my life. I’m just going to make sure I’m living it! So welcome to my Life List. It’s my Bucket List, the things I want to do or see in this lifetime. It’s ever evolving, changing, mutating and that’s the beauty of it. It reflects me and the person I am today. And it will change to reflect who I am tomorrow.

  1. I began a Day Zero list once but I found it too complicated and instead decided on monthly goals, which I’ve taken a break on this month, and may possibly do again in August. Day Zero is too much for me. I think I have all the time in the world until it gets to be halfway through and I still have 97 things to do. :X (But to be fair, I put big things on my list that I knew going in I probably wouldn’t be able to accomplish.)

But what a great bucket list you have here, Lozenger. It’s really inspiring, I think I might make one for myself one day. I think an amusement park road trip is a really rad idea. I love love roller coasters, so um yeah, that sounds awesome. :D:D

Here are some other things on your list that I nod my head in agreement with:

    Northern lights
    Stay at goal weight
    Roller derby

I’d love if you wrote about living in California sometime. I want to live out West. IDK if I would want to live in Cali though, so that’s why you should write about it, so I know what it’s like!

  2. Spend an entire day with each person I love or have ever loved. Whether it was some one that was never really a friend but maybe said something kind that I’ve never forgotten, or if it is a former love interest.

One full day with each of them where I say everything I was afraid to say, and to analyze and comprehend the past and the future.

Although, I’ve made it my life policy to never hide what I want to say. If I want to say “I really value your friendship and you have improved my life.” to someone…even if it’s to some non-emotional being that will be emabarssed and feel awkward about such a statement…. I try to do it anyway.

Life is to short. I’ve had too many near-death experiences.

I also really want to go to a place like india where the extremely poor are with no hope and give away all my money and help. I plan on doing this and making a documentary out of it when I am more financially stable.

    • Chris – I like your list, I think it’s a good one. Also thanks for sharing those lyrics, I’m going to have to check out that song.

Erica – I’m definitely going to write about California sometime! (What would you like to know about it?) I plan on starting a new series in the blog soon and California will definitely fit into it.

  3. Reply number two. I don’t listen to much hip-hop but there is this indie hip-hop/poet called Aesop Rock and he has an amazing song, lyrically, called “No Regrets”. It’s about the life story about a girl who dedicates her life to her art. The last verse kills me every time:

It’s a little long, but its great:

Lucy was 87, upon her death bed
At the senior home, where she had previously checked in
Traded in the locks and clips for a head rest
Traded in the charcoal sticks for arthritis, it had to happen
And she drew no more, just sat and watched the dawn
Had a television in the room that she’d never turned on
Lucy pinned up a life worth’s of pictures on the wall
And sat and smiled, looked each one over, just to laugh at it all
No Rico, he had passed, ’bout 5 years back
So the visiting hours pulled in a big flock o’ nothin
She’d never spoken once throughout the spanning of her life
Until the day she leaned forward, grinned and pulled the nurse aside
    And she said:
“Look, I’ve never had a dream in my life
Because a dream is what you wanna do, but still haven’t pursued
I knew what I wanted and did it till it was done
So i’ve been the dream that I wanted to be since day one!”
    Well!
    The nurse jumped back,
She’d never heard Lucy even talk,
    ‘Specially words like that
She walked over to the door, and pulled it closed behind
Then Lucy blew a kiss to each one of her pictures
    And she died.

  4. On my list…
-write and publish at least one book
    -the Magdalena pilgrimage
    -learn Spanish fluently
plus many many others. Thanks for getting me thinking about them again! x
